PySapien is a modern reinvention of the classic RoboSapien, upgraded with cutting-edge hardware, AI-driven software, and a modular design framework. Built on open platforms like Radxa and Raspberry Pi, PySapien transforms from a nostalgic toy into a powerful, interactive multimedia robot companion capable of running apps, connecting to networks, and expressing itself through sound, motion, and personality. Designed for developers, hobbyists, and enthusiasts alike, PySapien bridges the gap between robotics, creativity, and play.

See how AI powered robot entertainment can change your home!

I am not affiliated with the WowWee robotics co. I am simply pulling robot scraps out of landfills, repairing them, replacing the internals, then removing and significantly re-engineering most mechanisms. PySapien is no longer a RoboSapien, it is an entirely different robot and is not mass produced, but commissioned for construction.

G2 IS HERE!

PySapien G2 is here and replaces G1! G2 has a full color display, better cooling, better design, depth sensing and support for several single board computers. G2 currently comes with PySapien OS Bridgeway (0.9) as OS 1.0 Axon is still in development. G2 has stereo audio, built in mic, 64 bit OS and advanced navigation capabilities.

EXTENSIVE SOFTWARE SUITE

PySapien comes with great software support and tools such as:

  • PySapien Companion for running an LLM server, manipulating files, adjusting settings and tips / tricks for using the robot effectively

  • Cybrix, a terminal interface for gaining control of the robot that would otherwise require SSH, VNC or custom software

  • Control, an Android app for manipulating the robot, programming movement sequences and talking to the robot.

  • PySapien Emulator, part of Companion that allows you to use a virtual 3D robot if you don't have access to the real thing

With tools like this, the methods of control are truly endless.

MAKERS UNITE.

PySapien is more than just a hacked robot, and we put the community first. Explore vast community made software, as the robot has baked in application and multitasking support, as well as a personality system. For more narrow scoped developers that aren't looking to make waves or complete software, there is also a simple program system where you can test parts of your software on the robot, create dance sequences or do whatever you want.

The robot serves as a platform for development. Anyone else with a PySapien can try out your software.

OUT WITH THE OLD BRAIN

Unlike most hacks, PySapien removes the original brain of the robot and replaces it with a full linux computer. The original toy had a glorified audio processor for a brain. PySapien has the ability to process vision through AI, move in completely new ways and even roam on its own while self-docking on a charger. It's like a pint sized Optimis. If you have the software for the PC, the robot can even use a LLM to "think", producing opinions, experiences and world mapping in its own way. That's next-level compared to the original toy.

This is re-inventing the robot from the ground-up to do new things, just like Mark Tilden would have wanted. (Mark created RoboSapien. Learn More...)

PySapien also demonstrates a good, affordable STEM platform for:

Motor control, python coding, AI, computer vision, IoT, embedded systems, robotics and kinematics, automation, battery management and more.

For less than $400 USD, it is extremely hard to find another do-it-all kit with even half of these features for the same price.
